Barcelona was beautiful! We had the best week. I began my journey by traveling solo, for the first time, to the Zurich airport to meet Angela.
I arrived safely, we met up, and boarded our plane for Barcelona right on time. Upon arriving, we found our hostel and headed to the Magic Fountains for the evening show. It was lovely! It reminded me of Disney World. The music was good, too!
Sunday, we began our day by going to church. It was called International Church, and it was in English! After the altar call and Angela's snide Lutheran comments throughout most of the service, I got communion. I'll take it. After church, we went to the Botanical Gardens. We saw lots of plants, trees and flowers.
We also saw bonsai trees! They were very exciting and our favorite part.
Monday, we went on a walking tour with a British man named Collin. He took us all over Barcelona and told us a story about Christmas in Barcelona which I found disturbing and Ang found hilarious, shocking. The link to said tradition is here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tió_de_Nadal
We ended our tour at the beach, where we tried Paella for the first time. We also had gelato and sat by the boats. It was delicious!
Tuesday was our busiest day. We started the day by going to see La Sagrada Familia. It was absolutely gorgeous. Gaudi very purposely incorporates light into his work, and it clearly showed in this church. It was stunning.
After La Sagrada Familia we went to Parc Guell.
After walking around Parc Guell, Angela drank a Coke and perked up. So, we went to Casa Battlo! Casa Battlo is the house Gaudi designed, and it's magnificent.
Our last full day, we went to the labyrinth. It was fun, took me back to the high school corn maze days, except we didn't have a flag or a nice man in a tower to tell us which way to go when we got stuck. Don't worry, we figured it out.
After the labyrinth, we went to La Boqueteria, which is an open market in Barcelona. It was so cool! There was food everywhere!
Wednesday evening, we had Paella again. It was even better than the first one. Also, I had a sip of Sangria. Yay me.
Before leaving on Thursday, we went back to the beach. I had my rude and annoyed sounding "no thank you," all ready for the mojito men, so we enjoyed a nice hour on the beach. I even put my feet in the water! It was freezing and very worth it. I also managed to bring back a bottle of sand. Here's to hoping it makes it through American security and customs.
Overall, we had a fantastic time in Barcelona. It was the perfect way to spend spring break.
