Ciao from Lugano!
As many of you know, I am spending this semester abroad in Switzerland to study marketing and see Europe. I will use this blog to update you all on my adventures.
Today was my first full day in Lugano! My trip here was smooth thanks to my busy guardian angels. I got to the airport and was told to go to the premier check-in because they were trying to even out the lines at the regular check-in. This premier check-in allowed me to go through pre-check security which meant no one took a second glance at my all-too-heavy backpack. I was so excited about the all-too-heavy backpack going over well, that I left my winter jacket in the security line. I realized this when I arrived at the train, which would take me to the gate. So, I left my all-too-heavy backpack with some new friends and sprinted back to security. Of course, my jacket lay on the table waiting for me. My flight was smooth, but I left my brand new camelback water bottle on the plane. Unfortunately, wasn’t able to retrieve that one.
After landing, we took a bus from Zurich to Lugano. Though I slept a good bit of the ride, I did take in some breathtaking sights. Switzerland mountains are gorgeous!

People in Switzerland like to wear black coats. Also, we saw lots of important looking men wearing jeans, black coats, and sneakers. I don’t really get that, but I’m going with it. The Swiss seem to be a very fit bunch of people, as they easily walk all around these hilly cobblestone streets without much huffing or puffing, unlike myself. No worries friends, when I get back I will be in tip top shape.
We went to the grocery store today, and, golly, was that an adventure! Fun swiss fact: When in a Switzerland grocery store, one must weigh the fruit before checking out. Also, you have to bag your own stuff and bring your own bags. I bought some soap that I thought was lotion, so that was unfortunate. Everything is in a language other than English. Probably should’ve looked up some basic food and supplies-type words before going to the store, but, as my sister would say, YOLO.
I’ve had two meals at the Montarina hostel where I’m staying, and they were both delicious. My room is lovely, as is my roommate. I’m having a great time so far and can’t wait for all the adventures to come. I’m so excited to sleep in a bed tonight, and I am looking forward to a five hour hike up a gigantic mountain on Sunday which my professor is calling, “a walk.” Wish me luck people!
Arrivederci!
